A new study published in JAMA Network Open suggests that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine remained effective and reliable, even through the spike in cases due to the Delta variant.

The vaccine was 76% effective in preventing COVID-19 infections and 81% effective in preventing hospitalizations related to COVID. The vaccine also provided lasting immunity up to at least six months after receiving the dose. Emerging evidence thus suggest that the J&J vaccine could still have a key role against COVID-19.

Additionally, a CNN analysis of data collected by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that the J&J vaccine was associated with the lowest rate of breakthrough infections among all the vaccines being used, since the week ending December 25. In the month of January, during the Omicron wave, breakthrough infections were lowest among those who received the J&J vaccine and highest among those who received the Pfizer/BioNTech jab, followed by those who received the Moderna shot.

As of the week ending January 22, there were 757 infections per 100,000 individuals with the Moderna jab, 862 infections per 100,000 with the Pfizer shot and 650 infections per 100,000 with the J&J vaccine… (CNN, March 20, 2022)
